18K (or 18ct) gold is hallmarked ‘750’, it consists of 75% pure gold and 25% alloy metals. This composition makes it the softest of all gold alloys, and also most expensive. Platinum and palladium are hallmarked ‘950’, they are almost pure. They come from the same group of metals, with platinum being the hardest (ideal choice for those working with their hands). Palladium is softer but also more expensive. Both these metals are just polished high gloss, they are not rhodium plated.
